This was a tough call. Even though it isn't currently raining, the plants we had targeted for collection this morning are wet from last night. We can't store the wet seed. So we are cancelling this morning's workday.

Trying to eek out every, last possible seed-collecting day before our focus turns to buckthorn in mid November. Please help us with this very important task. Too early to say for sure, but the weekend may be wet; check back here for updates.

BE PREPARED: Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, garden gloves, and sturdy shoes to protect you from prickly things; bug spray with DEET or Picaridin to protect you from biting things.
Don't forget your drinking water and we would never say “no” to a treat to share with your fellow volunteers!
The Forest Preserve District of Cook County requires all volunteers under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent or guardian at workdays.
No one wanted to spend this beautiful fall day indoors…especially this great group of seed-collecting volunteers!

SAVE THE DATE - Annual Potluck Lunch and Seed Processing Event
Sunday - November 1​5th
Noon until we're finished (around 4 or 5)
​Location: To Be Announced
Bring a favorite dish to share. There are plenty of outlets for crockpots​.
This year we may have even more time for socializing and eating since some of our more difficult seeds ​w​ill be mechanically-processed by the Forest Preserve's hammer mill!
We will begin our lunch at noon. After we eat we will get to work processing the seeds we've worked so hard to harvest and creating the mixes that enhance the restoration.
It really is a fun day full of good food and camaraderie. Hope you can attend.
