BE PREPARED: Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, garden gloves, and sturdy shoes to protect you from prickly things; bug spray with DEET or Picardin to protect you from biting things.
Don't forget your drinking water and we would never say “no” to a treat to share with your fellow volunteers!
CHECK BACK HERE: We will post any updates due to weather or other unforeseen reasons an hour before the workday if needed.
The Forest Preserve District of Cook County requires all volunteers under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent or guardian at workdays.

Saturday Morning Workday @ Deer Grove EAST
Barring smoky Canadian forest fires, cyclospora in our workday snacks, or a plague of locusts…we are planning on going after sweet clover in the prairie.
We may be at the point where we can clip it instead of yanking it out by the roots (YAAAAY!!!), so bring hand clippers if you have them; if not, we have some you can borrow.

CANCELLED - Sunday Morning Workday
I've been sipping coffee and refreshing my various weather and air quality apps for the past hour. The air quality numbers have been bouncing from KINDA NOT GOOD to VERY NOT GOOD.
So I thought I would cancel today's workday now before you even had a chance to get out of your jammies. Go back to bed!

Air Quality and Sunday's Workday
The Forest Preserve air quality guideline for workdays states that workdays should be cancelled if there is an AQI over 150.
The current conditions are forecasted to improve on Saturday, but there is a chance smoky conditions will return Saturday night into Sunday morning.
We will be monitoring the AQI level and will post a notification on Sunday morning if we need to cancel.
